Non-tracking

It’s been more than a month since I stopped wearing my Apple Watch. The result? I’m not living a quantified life. I’m not tracking my steps, calories burned, hours stood, food intake, water intake, sleep, or even my weight. It’s a different mindset.

The old Fitbit joke was if you go for a walk without your Fitbit, do the steps count? Of course, my body never knew it was being tracked. It knew that I was walking daily, eating delicious fats, and staying on my sleep schedule. Over the course of several months, the pounds fell away and my overall health improved.

I weight in once a month now to keep an eye on things. After several false starts, I’m back on my diet. When I go for my walks, I’m not concerned about my pace, the duration, or how far I’ve gone. I’m only concerned with walking three laps around my neighborhood.

Is this a lasting strategy? Hard to say. I’ll know in six months to a year, but the initial returns are overwhelmingly positive.
